SVS Newsletter - March 2006

President's Column

Hello to all of you. It is March 2006 and the Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs is celebrating an anniversary. It was 13 years ago this month that the club was brought to life. Wayne Palmer is bringing a cake and I hope you are able to be there for the celebration. Paul Barrett is going to give a presentation. The details will follow later in this note. Meeting night is March 27th and it is also the last night to enter photos in our spring 2006 members only photo show. If you would like to enter (and I hope you do), you will need to pay your dues for the year. Please contact Wayne Palmer, our treasurer.

I am happy to let everyone know that our website is back up and running. We can be found at: http://www.susquehannavalleyshutterbugs.org/. There are several links on the page; enjoy yourself “surfing” around. Thanks to Wayne for maintaining the site.

I would also like to tell you that one of our members, Rick Mason, has a photo in the Parade Magazine archives. A link to that photo is: http://snapshot.parade.com/archive/0106/0122/index.html

And finally, details of Paul’s presentation as sent to me:

Photography teacher to show slides of

student photographs at Shutterbugs meeting in March

Paul Barrett local photography teacher at Loyalsock Twp. Sr. High School has been teaching photography for 20 years and will show slides of his photo students’ work and explain how he teaches his lessons to the students. Many people have asked, “What do you tell your students to get them to produce such wonderful photographs?”

Mr. Barrett will explain how to find interesting and unusual pictures from ordinary places, how to tilt the camera to create interesting angles and to take pictures from different heights (eye levels). Plus show the importants of adding a “Subject” to every shot, and show how the “Rules of Composition” work.. He will also explain the Rule-of-Halves & the Rule-of-Thirds and how to balance a picture correctly. Finally, Mr. Barrett will show slide examples of these steps and explain the importance of these techniques.

Have a great week, get your photos ready to enter and see you on the 27th.
